About the Author
It’s great to have some company on this website… as you may already know, my name is Carrie Baker. For the last 3 years, I have worked in downtown Ann Arbor for the University of Michigan working as a marketing specialist where I do all marketing, advertising and alumni relations for the Department of Comparative Literature. Before working for the University of Michigan, I worked for Pfizer as a marketing assistant helping with various programs and marketing to employees within Pfizer.
Even though I have been lucky to be able to work for such well known companies, I found that I still want more add responsibility and new challenges within the marketing field. This is when I decided to pursue a masters in Integrated Marketing Communications through West Virginia University. So, here I am! I created this blog to help open the topic of marketing and explore new emerging media. I only hope that I can offer some good insight and explore more on these topics.
I will try to post at least once week, so please check back often. However, most of my blogs will be posted on the weekend as I work full time, have lots of reading and school work, and run a graphic design company on the side which keeps me very busy. If you want to check out my latest work you can visit www.designedbycarrie.com. Most of my work consists of designing business cards, posters, flyers, webistes, brochures and more!
As some of you may be wondering, I have lots of experience in marketing, graphic design and just being creative. Throughout high school I was part of a marketing and communications program that allowed me to get college credit. We learned everything from various ways of marketing to printing to graphic design. At the end of my senior year, I was awarded most outstanding student and won numerous scholarships to go to school for graphic design. After attending school for 2 years in graphic design, I was not thrilled with the program and on top of that, the program got transferred to a private art college where I lost my scholarships. So I packed my bags and moved back home where I finished my bachelors in Business Administration several years later. This was a huge mistake as Business Administration lacked any need for creativity and focused mainly on finances and economics. Blah! But now, I have that behind me and really focusing on what I enjoy, marketing!
